Research context
GHRP-2 is a synthetic hexapeptide of the growth hormone-releasing peptide family. Bowers (1998) reviewed the class and its capacity to stimulate growth hormone release in experimental systems. The receptor these peptides act on, the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R1a), was cloned and characterised by Howard and colleagues (1996), who showed it is distinct from the growth hormone-releasing hormone receptor. In laboratory work, GHRP-2 is used as a reference agonist when examining ghrelin receptor signalling in cell-based assays and animal models. Published findings describe receptor biology and experimental systems only. They are not evidence of effects in people. Researchers should follow their own validated protocol for solvent choice, assay conditions and handling.
