- Product: GHK-Cu (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine copper complex)
Research context
GHK-Cu is a copper-binding tripeptide (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine) first isolated from human plasma in the 1970s. In published laboratory literature it is studied as a copper(II) complex in cell culture and in vitro systems. Pickart and Margolina (2018) reviewed bioinformatic analyses of gene expression data in which GHK was associated with changes in genes linked to extracellular matrix remodelling and antioxidant pathways. An earlier review (Pickart, Vasquez-Soltero and Margolina, 2015) summarised in vitro work on cellular pathways in skin models. These findings come from cell-based and computational models and are not evidence of effects in people. Researchers working with the compound typically consider copper binding, solution preparation and controlled in vitro conditions as variables in their experimental design.
